Blogmas Day #2-12/2/16

“On the second day of Blogmas, BeBe gave to you…traditions you can adopt too!”

Hello everyone! Welcome to Blogmas day 2!

Today I thought we’d talk about Christmas Traditions.  Most of my Christmas traditions came from my dad’s side of my family, they were really big into celebrating Christmas and family togetherness.  Both sides of my husband’s family celebrated Christmas and he has quite a few traditions we’ve adopted as well.  The following list are some of the traditions that my husband & I have adopted from our families and have used every since we got married and started celebrating Christmas together.  I hope you enjoy the list! 😀

  1. We put up our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving night & we don’t take it down until January 5th..  My dad always told me it was bad luck to take your tree down before the 5th, but it was also bad luck if you took it down after the 5th. The tree has to come down on the 5th.  I am not sure why…It was just the rule!
  2. Christmas Cookies! I am pretty sure just about everyone has this tradition.  My granny baked SO many Christmas cookies between the day after Thanksgiving and New Years day.  My mother-in-law also bakes us a lot of cookies.  We of course, always left out cookies for Santa Claus.  (I posted one of my Granny’s cookie recipes over at BeBe Bites for you to enjoy if you want.) 😀
  3. When I was growing up, our Christmas Eve dinner was always crab cakes. My granddad loved seafood and crab cakes were his favorite, so when my granny married him, she always made a special Christmas Ever dinner for him & it was always crab cakes. That was the only present she could give him when they first got married, due to not having very much money, so she would save as much money as she could all year to give him this special dinner. Of course, as the years passed, & they had children and grandchildren, and now great grandchildren, it became a family tradition. All of the women in my family, even the ones that married in, make crab cakes for Christmas Eve dinner. It was such a sweet gesture of her, I am glad we adopted the tradition and have the story behind it since my granddad is no longer with us.
  4. We always have Christmas pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve night.  My mom started that tradition when my oldest sister was born. We all still do that even though we are grown!
  5. In my family, we always opened our presents from Mom & Dad on Christmas Eve night, after dinner, then we got our stockings from Santa Claus on Christmas morning and opened our presents from the rest of the family on Christmas Day, after dinner.  My husband’s parents always let him and his sisters open one present on Christmas Eve night, after their church service, then they got to open the rest on Christmas morning.
  6. In my family, we always had a HUGE Christmas morning breakfast. We’d have this amazing breakfast casserole with biscuits on the side. I looked so forward to that breakfast all year!  (I will be posting that recipe on BeBe Bites next week.) 😉
  7. Real mistletoe.  My granddad always insisted that we had to have real mistletoe. He and my dad would go out and hunt for it and pick some to be sure we had it to hang up.  When my granddad couldn’t go out to search for it anymore, my dad would go with my brothers to get it.  Now that my dad is gone, my nephews always go out and get it. It’s become one of their traditions.
  8. A tradition that my husband and I started for ourselves.  Every Christmas, after dinner, we watch Die Hard.  Why? Because it’s only the best Christmas movie ever! lol 🙂
  9. For our Christmas dinner, my husband and I always make his grandma’s potato filling.  It is one of the most delicious things ever.
  10. Candy canes! We always have tons of real candy canes on our Christmas tree.  That was a tradition we adopted from both sides of our family. We end up eating them all before Christmas though…lol!

I hope you enjoyed my list of traditions that my family use.  What are your traditions?  Do you have the same ones I do or are yours different?  Please let me know! I am very curious to find out what traditions you have. 😀 😀

As always, thanks for reading!

Blogmas! 12/1/16

“On the first day of Blogmas, BeBe gave to you….a blog post that’s long overdue!”

Hello everyone!

I’ve decided this year that I am going to do “Blogmas”. For those of you who don’t know what Blogmas is, it starts on December 1st and goes through December 25th. Bloggers/Vloggers post at least one time a day and every post is dedicated to Christmas. I will be doing Blogmas on this blog and on my food blog, BeBe Bites. I’ve decided to do this because since my blogs went down awhile back, I haven’t gotten around to getting the content back up and I’ve been really lazy about blogging. I’m hoping this will relight my spark for blogging and get me back into the spirit of things! I’m actually looking very forward to it and I have a lot of neat things planned. I will also be on Snap Chat doing a few things, so if you aren’t following me there, be sure to! You can find me on Snap Chat at TheBeBePink. I -MIGHT- even post some YouTube videos. I haven’t decided for sure, so we’ll see.
OK! On to our first day. 😀

Today I would like to talk about your favorite Christmas songs.  I look forward every year to Christmas music, but honestly by the time Christmas is over, I am getting burned out on it…lol!  I made a list with links to YouTube videos to my favorite versions.  (*NOTE: I do not own these videos and I am not taking credit for them.)

My top three favorite Christmas songs are:

  1. Little Drummer Boy
  2. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
  3. The Chipmunk Song

Let me know what your top three favorite songs are!  You can comment here on the blog or tweet them to me on Twitter.

Hope you enjoyed the first day of Blogmas!!   Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for Day 2.

Thanks for reading!

Scrambled Saturday…8/20/16

Hello everyone…

Today is Saturday and I am feeling so unorganized and out of sorts.  I’m still not feeling the best in the world, still recovering from the nasty flu that I caught 2 weeks ago.  I am feeling a lot better than I did, but I’m still not 100%.  Getting over simple thing like the flu when you have as many health issues as I do, especially rheumatoid arthritis, is hard. My immune system is too busy being stupid and attacking my joints instead of attacking the stuff it’s supposed to.  Anyway, I just feel scrambled, as my granddad used to say, when he felt out of whack.

Husband is working today, bless him.  He had to go in and help switch over the phone systems at his office.  He worked 10+ hours yesterday, only to come home, sleep a few hours, then go right back.  Hopefully he won’t have to stay too long and can come home and actually relax for the rest of the day.

I’m here at home with Kitty and Sister Kitty.  We are trying to make our meal plan and grocery list for the next 2 weeks.  I usually do it for the month, but I slacked when I got sick and just sort of winged it.  I’m trying to get caught back up and take stock of what I all ready  have on hand and build from there. It’s not hard, just time consuming, going through all the grocery ads and seeing what deals are best and making a menu based on what is on hand and what is on sale. It’s worth it though, I’ve saved a lot of money by taking the time to plan.

I really miss Brother Kitty.  As I said in my last blog, it was heart wrenching to lose him. I am really missing him today because when I would sit and do the grocery/menu planning, he’d always sit on the chair next to me or wriggle his way onto my lap.  He was very good at organizing coupons…aka knocking them off my desk. lol 🙂

I’ve got a ton of new recipes to post on my food blog, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.  I actually only have one recipe up there at the moment, but I have one ready to go up as soon as I am done here.  If you care to check it out, even though it’s sparse at the moment, the link is here: BeBe Bites.

I hope you are all having a great Saturday!  Thanks for taking the time to read this. 🙂

Finally Back…8/17/16

Finally got the blogs back up.  Finally updating.

I haven’t blogged at all this year.  This year hasn’t been very kind to me. I haven’t really felt like blogging up until now.

For those of you who don’t know me that well, I am a cat mom. I love my cats more than anything. They are my fuzzy four legged kids.  In June, one of my precious kitties passed away.  He was only 11 years old.

“Brother Kitty” as I called him here online, was my oldest baby.  He was my tan/white boy…I called him my golden boy.  He was the sweetest cat I have ever met. He was so mellow and loving. All he ever wanted to do was sit on my lap and follow me around everywhere.

He began throwing up in the middle of May and I took him immediately to the veterinarian. He had a lot of tests run on him and we found out that he had large cell lymphoma and that he didn’t have much time left.  Cancer takes animals over fast, even with treatments, it isn’t like treating cancer in humans.  We did all we could to keep his quality of life good for as long as we could. On June 6, exactly four days after his 11th year adoption anniversary, my sweet golden boy had to be put to sleep.  It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  Working with animals, as I have in the past, I knew the whole process and what would happen, it’s just a whole other different story when the animal is your baby.  I felt like a huge hunk of my heart was ripped out and it’s never healed.  I miss my sweet boy every single day.  I don’t deal with loss well, I never have.  This has taken a lot out of me.  I feel like all I want to do is seclude myself with my other two cats and just lock everything and everyone else out.  I guess that is why I felt like I needed to start blogging again, so I can try and break myself out of this shell I’ve built around myself.

My other two kitties, “Kitty” and “Sister Kitty” are doing as well as can be expected. They obviously miss their brother and are having to adjust with him not being here any more. I’ve been doing all that I can for them, but I know this isn’t easy on them either.  It’s been very difficult for all of us.  I really appreciate everyone who has reached out to me over the past few months. Knowing that you were all thinking of my cat and of my family really helps.  I appreciate all of your friendship more than you know.  I will eventually emerge again, I know that blogging will help.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
